Microsoft Teams Optimization for Citrix on Raspberry Pi Now Available

Microsoft Teams optimization for Citrix environments has been supported for many years, but this has always been limited to x64-based endpoints, which has meant that those customers using Raspberry have not taken advantage of this feature.

However, we do have some good news for those customers using the Raspberry Pi and are pleased to confirm that with the latest release of the Citrix Workspace App version 2408, Microsoft Teams optimization is now supported but this is limited to the arm64 version of NoTouch OS.

For customers using the ARMHF version of NoTouch OS, the position remains unchanged, and Teams optimization is not supported.

Whist the arm64 version of NoTouch OS will work the Raspberry Pi models 3b, 4 & 5 model 3b is simply not capable of handling the offloading and as such is not supported. For the best experience, we recommend using the Raspberry Pi 5.

Below are some known limitations, as outlined in the Citrix documentation.

  • The second ringtone does not work when both USB microphone devices are selected on the Raspberry Pi 4B devices.
  • The background effect is not supported for Linux Arm64 devices.
  • When turning on both incoming and outgoing video, the resolution might degrade due to Pi performance limitations.
  • The feature does not support human interface devices (HID).

For best practices on Microsoft Teams deployment within Citrix environments please refer to the most up-to-date documentation available on the Citrix website.

Configuring Microsoft Teams optimization within NoTouch OS couldn’t be easier. Simply enable the WebRTC/Microsoft Teams Redirection parameter in the Citrix Workspace App parameters of your connection.

It’s then possible to verify that Microsoft Teams is optimized in the settings as shown in the example below.

This new feature is available in NoTouch OS version 3.6.390 EAR onwards which is available from our customer portal with an active maintenance subscription.
