Stratodesk NoTouch Now Includes Support for ControlUp Remote DX for Azure Virtual Desktop & Windows 365 Environments

With AVD Techfest just around the corner, Stratodesk is pleased to confirm support for ControlUp RemoteDX for Azure Virtual Desktop (AVD) & Windows 365 (W365) environments to add to our existing support for RemoteDX for both Citrix & Horizon environments. To access these features, you’ll need to be running NoTouch OS version 4.6.322 & NoTouch Center 4.5.614, which is available in our customer portal.

For those unfamiliar with RemoteDX, RemoteDX is part of Real-Time DX suite which provides an end-to-end view of your virtual desktop environment. RemoteDX monitors metrics on the endpoint such as CPU usage and Wi-Fi signal strength amongst others and gives visibility of your employee’s client devices regardless of where they work and what type of workspace they’re connected to.

For detailed instructions on how to get started configuring NoTouch, please refer to the following blog post that was updated earlier this year.

Stratodesk NoTouch Configuration

With the updates to NoTouch OS & NoTouch Center there is a new parameter in ‘Services Group Settings’ called ControlUp|Remote DX FreeRDP/AVD lib URL: which looks up and installs libcuepux-client.so binary which needs to be downloaded by the NoTouch OS endpoint.

At the time of writing this URL is not publicly available, but please keep an eye on the ControlUp support page for further updates to this URL.

The final part of the configuration is the connection to the virtual desktop environment itself. To trigger the RemoteDX binary download search for RemoteDX in the AVD parameters and enable ‘ControlUp RemoteDX’ as shown in the example below.

Finally, announce the changes and reboot the NoTouch OS endpoint. You can verify the download by logging into the local configuration and going to Daignostic>debug Information>Cache and you should see something like shown in the output below under controluprdp.

If this did not download correctly, check that you have disabled the ‘Check Certificate on System Downloads’ parameter below in the ‘Security Group Settings’ as this is a requirement if your NoTouch Center does not have a valid SSL certificate.

ControlUp Remote DX Configuration

If the ControlUp agent is installed on the VDA’s then there’s no further configuration required. To verify that everything is working as expected, launch a AVD or Windows 365 session on the NoTouch OS endpoint and within the ControlUp’s VDI/DaaS section view the session. Select “Remote DX” from the columns menu and enriched data from the endpoint will be reported.

Clicking the client metrics button opens a diagram that shows a network map from the endpoint to the VDI session. Again, here we can see significant latency which is possibly because I’m connecting wirelessly from a device in the UK to an AVD session on the US West Coast.

It’s feedback like this that means administrators can troubleshoot user issues quickly as they’re given the full picture of what is happening in real-time from the endpoint to the VDI session including processes that might impact CPU utilization and ultimately the user experience.
